Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an additional layer of security protection to your Luno account. It takes away the worry and replaces it with the comfort of knowing your account is as safe as it can possibly be - and that only you can sign in.
Imagine that your Luno account is a big metal safe, one that needs both a physical key and a PIN number entered on a keypad, to open it. Your password would then be the PIN, and two-factor authentication the key. Even if someone was able to find out what your PIN is - without you knowing about it - they wouldn’t be able to open the safe without the key (which you always have with you), no matter how hard they tried.
How 2FA works
You’ll need access to your mobile phone when you sign in to Luno
You’ll enter a verification code and your password every time you sign in
Set up 2FA
Step 1: Download and install an authentication app
Before you can set up 2FA on your Luno account, you’ll need to download and install an authentication app on your mobile phone. We strongly suggest Google Authenticator or Authy, but there are others that you can use as well:

iPhone: Google Authenticator, Authy
Android: Google Authenticator, Authy
Blackberry: Google Authenticator
Microsoft Mobile: Authenticator+
Step 2: Set up 2FA in Luno
On the mobile app
Now that you've installed your authenticator app, open the Luno app and sign in
Select Profile from the menu
Select Security, and then Two-factor authentication
On the next screen, select Get Started
Select the 2FA setup key displayed on the screen to copy it
Navigate to your authentication app, and add Luno there. Choose the + plus icon, select Manual entry (Google Authenticator) or Enter key manually (Authy), and then paste the key on the next screen
A unique 6-digit code for Luno will display. Press the code to copy it
Navigate back to the Luno app, and through the magic of technology, the code will automatically be entered, and 2FA enabled
Success! You’ve just enabled 2FA on your Luno account.
On the web app
Now that you've installed your authenticator app, open the Luno app and sign in, navigate to the two-factor authentication settings page by clicking here
Select SETUP 2FA
On the Setup your 2FA app screen, a QR code will display, as well as a Setup key
-
Depending on the option you prefer, either:
Scan the QR Code displayed on the web app. On your authentication app, choose the + plus icon, select Scan barcode (Google authenticator) or Scan QR Code (Authy) to scan your unique QR Code, or...
Copy the Setup key on the Luno Setup your 2FA app screen, and on your authentication app, choose the + plus icon, select Manual entry (Google Authenticator) or Enter key manually (Authy), and then paste the key on the next screen
Once done, a unique 6-digit code for Luno will display
On the Luno web app, enter your 6-digit code to complete your 2FA setup
Success! You’ve just enabled 2FA on your Luno account.
Note
Store your Luno 2FA setup key and your authenticator recovery key in a safe place, just in case you can’t access your authentication app or switch mobile devices. More about that here.
Troubleshoot 2FA
Once you’ve enabled 2FA, and in case you get stuck at any time, find out what to do if you can’t access your authenticator app, or what to do if your 6-digit authentication code isn’t working.
