Note
This feature is temporarily unavailable. Currently, you can only send crypto to a valid cryptocurrency address. To find out more, head on over to this article.
Sending to a cryptocurrency address is costly due to the blockchain mining fee and can take time if the network is congested. That’s why we’ve created a way that doesn’t use the Bitcoin blockchain network, allowing you to send Bitcoin for free to anyone that has a Luno account.
Here's how
- Open the Luno app and sign in
- Select Wallets, then your Bitcoin (BTC) wallet and Send
- Enter the email or mobile number of the person you'd like to send to (or choose from your contacts)
- Enter the amount you want to send (in BTC or local currency)
- Customise your reference message to the recipient, then review the transaction
- Enter your PIN or two-factor authentication code (if necessary, depending on your device and settings), then confirm
Keep in mind
If you send it to someone who is already a Luno customer they will get the Bitcoin instantly.
If you send to someone who is not a Luno customer they will receive a notification of your Bitcoin send, your personalised message, and a prompt to sign up. If they don’t accept your invitation within 14 days, the Bitcoin will be sent back to your wallet.
If the recipient has not redeemed the Bitcoin you sent, you can also cancel the transaction via the Luno app.
Note
There are various ways to send Bitcoin with Luno, and some of these methods have fees associated with them. You can read more about these fee structures here.
